Our Castile is completely old school, and we're proud of that. We only use 100% pure olive oil.

Castile soap is a workhorse that is gentle enough to use on your baby and your facial skin. It can also be used to clean bathrooms, food preparation areas, and floors. Our Castile is made with food grade olive oil and can be used to clean your fruit and vegetables, too. This is the only soap I craft that is safe to use on cats. Most everything is toxic to cats so please - if you have to wash a cat do it with something that's not going to make her sick or worse after you stress her out from the bath!! You can also wash dogs and horses with this. It washes out great and is fragrance free.

Castile soap originated in the Castile region of Spain. It has historically been crafted of 100% pure olive oil and is a hard, white soap which is aged for at least four months, and oftentimes much longer. Castile, like most soaps (and wine!) improves with age. It is naturally vegan.

Adding any animal product during crafting negates its Castile status. There is historical documentation of laurel oil use in the very early history of Castile Soap, but that soap is now known as Aleppo Soap. Castile inspired soaps are found to have been crafted by many cultures, substituting either the saponifier, or oil(s) saponified. In modern day, large soap manufacturers have marketed any soap containing only vegetable oils as Castile, but that's a little like deciding that any liquid can be marketed as water if one has enough money to do so convincingly. That's unacceptable to us. Likewise, we don't accept that any vegetable oil soap is Castile. Don't settle for less than real Castile, because real Castile is a treat.

We use our Castile as the base for the laundry soap we use in our home. If you are looking for mild, moisturizing soap with a reputation for being able to do it all, look no further.
