1. Begin by running hot water, as hot as you find comfortable, over your hands and face. This generates steam and opens your pores. Take a hot, wet washcloth and place it over your face for about 30 seconds.
2. Remove the washcloth and pour a couple of teaspoons of your chosen oil cleanser, such as a blend of castor oil and tamanu oil, into your palm. Massage the oils into your face using circular motions for approximately 2 minutes. Allow the cleanser to remain on your skin for an additional 30 seconds.
3. While the cleanser sits on your skin, wet the washcloth again with very hot water and place it over your face for 10-20 seconds. This helps to further soften the impurities.
4. Rinse the washcloth and gently begin rubbing off the oil from your skin. Repeat this step at least 3 times, ensuring that all the oil cleanser is thoroughly removed.
5. Allow your skin to return to its natural temperature. Some individuals follow with a toner and moisturizer, but this step is optional. Adding additional products may reintroduce elements that can clog your pores. Oil cleansing can be performed as frequently as needed. Some people prefer to do it a few times a week, while others do it daily. It naturally removes makeup and mascara, making it an excellent choice for evening cleansing.
- Give your skin time to adjust to the new routine. It's normal for your skin to go through phases of overcompensation towards dryness or oiliness during the first week.

Start by running hot water, the highest heat you find comfortable to your hands and face. You don't want to scald, but you do need to generate steam. Immerse your washcloth and place the hot, wet cloth over your face for about 30 seconds. This opens the pores.
Remove the washcloth and pour a couple teaspoons of Oil Cleanser into the palm of your hand and then massage the oils into your face. Experts suggest massaging in a circular motion for about 2 minutes and then allow the cleanser to remain on your skin for another 30 seconds. During this time wet your washcloth again in very hot water and place over your face for 10-20 seconds.
Rinse the washcloth again and then gently begin rubbing the oil off your skin. Repeat this step at least 3 times, more if needed to assure all the oil cleanser has been removed.
Allow your skin to return to body temperature naturally. Some people follow with a toner and moisturizer. This step is unnecessary but ultimately is up to you. The addition of other products can reintroduce elements which can make their way into your pores again. Oil cleansing may be required more frequently for those who do this. Many find that oil cleansing is needed only a few times a week, others prefer daily. As oil cleansing will naturally remove makeup and mascara (even waterproof formulas), I prefer to cleanse each evening.
As with any new regime, it takes time for your body to adjust to something new. You can use an occasional mask or exfoliating scrub, but soap cleansers will be unnecessary and their use can hinder skin's regulation of its own moisture.
If a particular blend does not seem to work for you, try another! Remember though that it is completely normal for your skin to go through phases of overcompensation towards dry or oily for the first week or so. Pay attention to your skin's response after the first week and make your formula adjustments then. Remember that your skin is unique, so oil cleansing will be an individual thing. Play with the frequency and formula until you find what clicks with your skin!
Be sure to rinse, rinse, rinse, and rinse some more. Some users think their skin is producing excessive oil after an oil cleanse, but have simply not gotten all of the cleansing product removed.
